Volunteer Opportunities

The Barnabas Youth Opportunities Center is celebrating 23 years of Christian ministry as a Presbyterian presence in the City of Detroit. We offer opportunities for others to share in this work as volunteers.

Do you possess a special gift or talent that you enjoy sharing? Are you a superb organizer? Do you enjoy working with children? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", Barnabas wants you!

 

We can be flexible on scheduling. The following are possible areas in which to serve.

Board of Directors Member - Working member of Board of Control

Committee Member - Marketing/Advertising, Finances & Fund-Raising, Building/Property, Program, Personnel/Nominations

Secretary - Organizing office, typing, filing, telephoning

Coordinator of Volunteers - Training, scheduling, and supporting volunteer workers

Building Renovation/Maintenance Worker - "Handyman" work, Renovation work

Arts Activities Coordinator - Art, Music, Dance and/or crafts activities with youth

Tutor - Math, Reading, Writing and other academic subjects

Instructor - Woodworking, Entrepreneurship, Computers, Sewing or other skill classes for youth

Health & Nutrition Advisor - Advising and providing basic health and nutrition information for youth and parents

Field Trip Coordinator - Plan, organize, and conduct field trips for youth

Recreation Program Assistant - Work with youth in indoor/outdoor recreation program

Newsletter Writer/Editor - Work on newsletter for "Friends of Barnabas"

Fund-raising, Events Assistant - Help with quarterly fund-raising events

Counselor - Provide assistance for youth and their families as needed
